Poem of the Week: I Remember

I Remember

I remember
A street on a steep hill
Garden apartments lined up on one side,
Private houses lined the other.
Every Saturday morning,
After cartoons turned into sports’ shows
Kids spilled out of doors,
Calling, yelling, running,
Making teams, playing Kick-the-Can
And Ring-a-Leevio, One Two Three.
Round the blocks, past the bagel store and the mini-mart,
Weaving through backyards and row of attached garages,
Wild and free from worry
Until Moms called them in for supper.
