Poem of the Week: I Remember

I Remember

I remember
A street on a steep hill
Garden apartments lined up on one side,
Private houses lined the other.
Every Saturday morning,
After cartoons turned into sports’ shows
Kids spilled out of doors,
Calling, yelling, running,
Making teams, playing Kick-the-Can
And Ring-a-Leevio, One Two Three.
Round the blocks, past the bagel store and the mini-mart,
Weaving through backyards and row of attached garages,
Wild and free from worry
Until Moms called them in for supper.

Final Preparations for Published Pieces

Reading your writing out loud can change the way it sounds. Today, we read our information pieces out loud to a partner and fixed any parts that we needed to.
Students used their checklists to analyze their own writing.
Look at the beautiful mess we call drafts!

Team Bryant Chain of Thankfulness

Image result for thanksgiving
It is a great time of year to reflect on how lucky we are and think about what we are thankful for. Today, your child will bring home strips of construction paper for members of your family to fill out. We are creating a chain of thankfulness for our classroom and we would love for you to join us!

Please write one thing you are thankful for on the strip of paper with your name on the back. This is not a required assignment, but more so a fun way to involve you in our classroom.

If I don’t see you before the break, I hope you have a safe and wonderful holiday with friends and family! I am thankful for this wonderful Team Bryant I get to work with this year. Your kids make me smile every day. It truly is a joy teaching them. Thank you for your time and hope to see some links come back soon!

Team Bryant Highlights: November 14-18

Reading: Readers will continue to write about nonfiction texts. We will pay close attention to how authors portray their information. Are they sharing the information in a positive light or a negative light, and why?

Writing: Writers will craft new introductions to capture our readers’ attention! We will also work on strong conclusions that bring closure to our pieces for our readers.

Math: Mathematicians will review adding and subtracting decimals to prepare for their Chapter 5 Test that they will take on Wednesday, November 16th. We will begin Chapter 6: Multiplying and Dividing Decimals at the end of the week.

Science: Scientists will study the differences between vertebrates and invertebrates. We will create our own Dichotomous Keys and a Taxonomy foldable to help us remember Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species. Students will need to know this for their test!

Social Studies: Historians will learn about the conquests of the Americas.
