Poem of the Week: Deserted Farm
Deserted Farm
by Mark Vinz
Where the barn stood
the empty milking stalls rise up
like the skeleton of an ancient sea beast,
exiled forever on shores of a prairie.
Decaying timber moans softly in twilight
the house collapses like a broken prayer.
Tomorrow the heavy lilac blossoms will open,
higher than the roof beams, reeling in wind.

James and the Giant Peach is about a boy named James Henry Trotter. His parents died in a ship accident and James lived with his old mean aunts that put James to work. While James was working he saw a peach and took his aunts to see him and the peach. One day the peach grew and grew until it was bigger than the tree the peach was on. The peach grew a whole entrance for James to enter and he did. When he entered the peach he saw a talking centipede, a ladybug, a spider, a earthworm, and a grasshopper. The peach broke lose from the tree and takes to an unexpected journey. Read to find out.
